Outstanding chemical resistance at elevated temperatureshex bolt s

  • Virtually inert to most organics, acids and bases
  • Usable up to 260°C / 500°F and tougher than PTFE
  • Excellent electrical insulator
  • High purity for sensitive pharmaceutical and food type applications
  • Material datasheet for PFA
  • PFA hex head bolt features and benefits

PFA hex head bolts made from perfluoroalkoxy alkanes (PFAs) are fluoropolymers with properties similar to polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). PFA's are known for being exceptionally corrosion resistant and inert at elevated temperatures. PFA hex head bolts are inert to most chemical environments including organics, acids, bases, mixed chemicals and hyrdofluoric acid. Additionally PFA bolts are bio-inert and will not leach into or contaminate sensitive pharmaceuticals or food based products.

Compared to other high performance polymer bolts like PEEK or PVDF, PFA hex head bolts offer the best all-around corrosion resistance especially at elevated temperatures. However the trade-off for its extraordinary corrosion resistance is its lower tensile strength compared to PVDF or PEEK bolts.

PFA Hex Head Bolt Features and Benefits

It is important to differentiate between a PFA hex head bolt and hex head cap screw. Often people assume they are the same, but they are actually very different fasteners in terms of how they are manufactured, as well as from an application perspective. Regardless of your choice, PFA hex heads offer strong, stable joints because of their large head service.

The Hex Comparison

Hex Head Bolts

Hex Head Cap Screw
  • Hex bolts have a flat end and lack the washer face under the head.
  • Appropriate for when mechanical properties are more important than dimensional tolerances.
  • Features flat washer facing under the bolt head.
  • Also called a finished hex bolt.
  • Has tighter tolerances on the body dimensions.
  • Best used for precise applications where tight tolerances on the body dimensions are required.
