Studs: First to First Thread vs. Overall Length

Q: My customer asked for a Hastelloy stud that is threaded first to first. Is this important?

A: This is a very important detail. There are 2 options for threads on studs.  1) First to First and 2) Overall Length (or physical end to other physical end). “First to First” means that the length of the stud is measured from the beginning of the first thread on end 1 to the beginning of the first thread on end 2. “Overall Length” is the length of the stud from the physical end to the end. This can be important depending on your application as the measurement can vary anywhere from 1/4″ to 1/2″ difference in length. Hastelloy studs can be may in a custom lengths under 1 foot long.
