Monel 400 Bolts for Naval Assembly

Q: We are providing the Navy components made of Navy G Bronze that incorporates shoulder bolts and set screws. The assembly will be exposed to air, salt water, modest temperatures (0C to 80C), and limited stress. What alloy do you recommend?

A: Sounds like a Monel 400 might be a good choice or your application. Its immune to sea water corrosion and is galvanically compatible with Naval Bronze. Monel bolts are often a go-to choice for naval and marine use because of their salt water resistance combined with reliable strength of 83ksi UTS. If higher strength is needed, I would recommend sister alloy Monel K500 bolts. K500 is age hardened to offer 160ksi UTS.
