Material Test Reports (MTRs) for Fasteners

Q: What is included in a Material Test Report for fasteners?

A: Material Test Report for fasteners, also referred to as an MTR, is much more a detailed document than a Certificate of Conformance. Basically, it is a record confirming the material’s physical and chemical properties are per industry standards. This will include the percentages of each chemical element, as well as the mechanical test data like Ultimate Tensile Strength, Yield, Elongation, Reduction of Area and Hardness.   Additionally any heat treatment and raw material specifications will be included.

Key points of an MTR are:

  • Material Grade
  • Mechanical Properties
  • Chemical Analysis
  • Heat Treatment (if applicable)
  • Raw Material Specifications.
