Inconel Bolts: Preventing Galling/Seize & Over-Torque

Q: I need an Inconel 625 screw for a high temperature environment with trace corrosives. I’d need torx head bolt style. How many times can I tighten and loosen this type of bolt before I need to replace it?

A: You should be able to get hundreds or even thousands of uses out of a metal fastener made of an alloy as strong as Inconel, assuming that:

  • You are not exceeding the elastic limit of the screw  (ie, over-torquing the screw). Here is a link to our Inconel torque chart.
  • You are not experiencing thread galling/seizing which may wear the thread surface. If this is happening you may want to consider using an anti-seize lubricant. Our lubricant can be used to 2400F and it can lower friction on installation, as well as prevent seize and galling.
