Finishes to Prevent Bolt Thread Galling

Q: Do you have any finishes that you can recommend to add to the studs/nuts to prevent galling?

A: Regarding galling there are a few things that could be done depending on your application’s needs.

1) The easiest and cheapest solution is to use an anti-seizing lubricant. We sell one that might work for you.
2) For a more permanent solution, if you were to silver plate the nuts, this could minimize galling on an uncoated threaded rod or stud.
3) Finally, if your application allows, you can mix and match materials. For example 17-4 Studs with Inconel 625 Nuts.  Having dissimilar material chemistries will minimize galling.
