| Socket weld flanges have an internal stop to support pipes when welding. By inserting a pipe into the socket, this stop prevents the pipe from sliding all the way through and then the flange is fillet welded to secure the connection. Socket weld flanges are similar to slip on flanges but offer a higher strength connection.
